American Development Model
The Atlantic District has adopted many elements of USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM) for the upcoming season, but many parents still have questions about what this will mean for their players. USA Hockey has put out a fantastic eight-minute video explaining the idea behind the program and we encourage you to check it out.
With repetitive motion injuries on the rise, and burnout turning our young athletes off at an increasingly early age, the ADM seeks to incorporate principles of cross-training, adequate rest, and age-appropriate goals into the sport of ice hockey. At New Jersey Devils Youth, we have been ahead of the curve in introducing such things as cross-ice games for Mites and encouraging our athletes to play other sports during their off-seasons, and it is gratifying to know that research is coming out to support what we've been doing all along.
Please call or email us if you have any questions about the philosophy behind ADM or how it is being put into practice in our District.
